PADOT SR 3045, Section A01 Waddle Road Interchange

Delivery System(s): General Contractor/Design Build
Location: State College, PA
Completion Date: 2018
Cost: $14.7 Million
Client Name: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 2-0

Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. and P. Joseph Lehman, Inc., Consulting Engineers provided design-build services for replacement of an existing bridge over I-99 at the Waddle Road Interchange in Patton Township, Pennsylvania. The project included removal and replacement of the existing 3 lane wide bridge with a six lane bridge plus pedestrian sidewalk, widening of Waddle Road and ramps, replacement and updating of five signalized intersections.

As the result of commercial and residential expansion near the Waddle Interchange, the existing bridge and roadways could no longer provide the needed vehicle volume capacity.

During peak travel times, ramp traffic would often back up onto I-99, creating significant safety issues.

PADOT, in partnership with Patton Township, contracted for the design and replacement of the existing bridge, roadway, and traffic signals.

Together, GOH and P. Joseph Lehman completed the bridge, roadway, utility and signalized intersections design.

Staged construction of the new bride along with extensive utility relocation and coordination was required to maintain traffic during construction.

GOH bridge, piling, excavation, utility, materials and paving services all contributed to completing the project within the required 24 month period.
